Hi there, I’m Paul
I am a National Board Certified Teacher, Literacy Specialist, adjunct professor, keynote speaker, and the author over 40 publications, including Make Teaching Sustainable and Reclaiming Personalized Learning.
With over a decade of experience as an elementary school teacher, my work has been endorsed by thought leaders in education, including Carol Ann Tomlinson (The Differentiated Classroom), Tony Wagner (Most Likely to Succeed), Jim Knight (The Impact Cycle), Doug Fisher (Distance Learning Playbook), and Jo Boaler (Mathematical Mindsets).
In all of my writing and speaking, I aim to convey one central message: we must teach and learn in the pursuit of a deeper sense of collective humanity—and for no other reason.
I currently consult with teachers, coaches, and administrators on a number of topics, including:
Administrative Coaching
Instructional Coaching Best Practices
School Culture and Teacher Agency
Standards-Based Instruction
Learner-Driven Assessment
Personalized Learning and Differentiated Instruction
Best Practices in Literacy and Mathematics
Project-Based Learning
land acknowledgement
I acknowledge that I reside on the traditional unceded homelands of the Council of Three Fires--comprised of the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations--as well as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac, Fox, Kickapoo, and Illinois Nations. Today, this area is known as Chicago, and some of the significant roads within the city reflect trade roads followed by these tribes.
Today, one of the largest urban American Indian communities in the United States resides in Chicago. Members of this community contribute immensely to our city, but are so often erased in discussions about equity and justice. As a resident of Chicago, it is my responsibility to acknowledge these truths of our shared history and my role in working towards justice for indigenous people.
